Sugar Creek Arts Academy outlines arts‑integration expansion and after‑school programming

Sugar Creek Arts Academy staff presented an update on arts integration, recent facility enhancements and partnerships.
Principal and arts integration staff described a new brand and mascot (the Star), updated signage and a mural in the cafeteria. Kenny Timbrell, the school's arts integration specialist, said teachers have been trained in arts‑integration strategies and the school is developing crosswalks between existing curriculum and arts standards so students encounter arts connections regularly.
Timbrell described a new after‑school program called Star Academy and said the school received a Disney Theatricals grant (Disney Stage Connect) to support a production of Aladdin Kids; 49 students had already signed up for the after‑school production, and staff and parent volunteers are assisting. The school also described partnerships with Crystal Bridges and other local museums, plans for a grant‑funded choreographer through the Arkansas Arts Council and research collaborations with Heartland Whole Health Institute and the University of Arkansas.
Staff highlighted classroom projects tying arts to literacy and math (for example, Kandinsky circle projects and a third‑grade Mad Hatter lesson) and said they are developing assessment approaches to measure arts‑integration learning outcomes. Presenters asked the board for feedback and described ongoing parent outreach and volunteer support. The presentation was informational; the board thanked staff for the work.
