The group said it, along with Mitchell and Yancey counties, received a Red Cross grant totaling approximately $3,000,000—about $1,000,000 designated for each county—to help long‑term recovery efforts. The group also said it expects a North Carolina VOAD grant to start flowing to the counties by or before August and that its unmet‑needs table meets weekly to coordinate assistance beyond FEMA and other programs. The group invited the county to refer anyone applying for a private roads and bridges grant due July 16, and announced a back‑to‑school bash for July 31 at the high school from 4–8 p.m.
Group members also thanked volunteers and partner organizations—including local churches and national volunteer groups—for assisting recovery work, and offered continued partnership with county staff in outreach and event planning.
