Galloway schools mark 25 years and honor students, staff and coaches

Board celebrated GTMS and Arthur Rand 25th anniversaries, recognized student winners of the LPGA ticket contest and local billboard art, and honored multiple athletic championship teams and a 55-year-retiring teacher.
The Galloway Township Public School District used its June 9 meeting to celebrate a string of student and staff recognitions, including the 25th anniversary of Galloway Township Middle School and a historical presentation on Arthur Rand Elementary.
Mr. Santilli introduced a highlight reel of the GTMS anniversary. Jeremiah Peyton, a long-time Galloway educator and parent, presented history of Arthur Rand Elementary and described the school’s founding, previous superintendents and building additions. The board announced a time capsule to preserve school artifacts for future students.
Students and staff received awards: two students won the LPGA ticket design contest — Isaac Schwanger of Smithville Elementary and Milana Ravenco of Roland Rogers Elementary — and a GTMS student’s artwork (Adin Wynn) is displayed on a Route 9 billboard. The GTMS step team and multiple sports teams were recognized: the boys’ track team won the Cal championship in Ocean City, several relay and individual track medalists were named, the baseball team was praised for its camaraderie, and the softball coach reported back-to-back championships for eighth graders.
The board also publicly honored GTMS teacher Carol Derider for 55 years of service and approved her retirement with expressions of gratitude.
The meeting included introductions of new staff members, including assistant principal Grant Hillebrand and a new principal at Arthur Rand Elementary, Ken Berardis.
