The Department of Developmental Services' West Region presented updates on several supported-housing projects intended to increase community placements for people with developmental disabilities.
Shannon said a supported-housing development on Route 10 in Cheshire is advancing with Southern Tenn and ARC as partners and Ben Tripp listed as the developer. That Cheshire project was described as likely to open in 2025 or 2026.
Shannon reported a Naugatuck site where demolition has begun and that the first phase will provide 12 units, with a likely second phase adding a similar number. She described the location as favorable and said the agency requests periodic updates from developers to track progress.
A Fairfield County proposal was submitted for Department of Housing review; Shannon said the application deadline was the coming Friday and that staff are hopeful for approval. Shannon noted that while the Fairfield site is not within walking distance of central services and will require agency-supported transportation, "something's better than nothing," and families have repeatedly raised the need for options in Fairfield County.
No formal votes or approvals were taken; members asked for ongoing updates as approvals and developer timelines are confirmed.
