Superintendent reports expanded summer learning, corrective-action progress and community-schools grant

Greensville County — In the superintendent’s report at the Sept. 8 meeting, administrators said they continue to implement the division’s corrective-action plan (CAP) and described several operational steps and supports intended to strengthen teaching and student services.
The presenter summarized key priorities under the CAP and highlighted an expansion of the summer learning program that this year extended services from grades 3–5 to include grades 6–8, offering English-language arts and mathematics opportunities and added supports to help students stay on track. "We also held our week-long service learning project, Clear Space Clear Mind," the presenter said, praising participating dual-enrollment seniors for their work reorganizing central-office spaces.
The report described new professional learning and development opportunities offered to teachers across grade bands, and a VDOE partnership to provide on-site support for K–12 English-language-arts teachers as the division implements updated standards.
Funding and supports: The superintendent announced the division received a VDOE community-schools partnership grant that will support a site coordinator at Greensville County High School and provide districtwide resources including food and laundry vouchers, translation and interpretation services, and college-visit and career-readiness field trips.
Next steps: Staff will continue CAP implementation, weekly policy-review meetings were established to streamline updates, and the division plans to monitor outcomes from the expanded summer learning work.
