The Village of Saint Charles council voted to move forward with two grant applications to seek Category B road restoration funding.
Staff explained the village had previously received Phase 1 funding (about $517,000) and that the Phase 2 applications for Walnut Street and Cherry Street are part of ongoing efforts to improve local roads. The applications require a council resolution as part of the submission; council approved separate motions to establish the requests for funding under resolution 25‑9 (Walnut) and resolution 25‑10 (Cherry).
Village staff said the Category B grants are matching funds and that the village will earmark village street fund money as needed to cover the local match if the grants are awarded. Trustees discussed submitting both applications and seeing which, if any, the program will fund.
Staff noted prior denials for some applications but indicated the village would reapply and plan for 2026–2027 projects depending on award outcomes.
Outcome: Council approved both resolutions by roll-call vote; staff will finalize applications and return with recommendations if awards are received.
