Yamhill Downtown Association outlines winter 'Light up Yamhill' plan, bingo fundraiser and design outreach

Jenny Morrison, speaking on behalf of the Yamhill Downtown Association, told the council the group is coordinating downtown beautification and fundraising to support holiday lighting and pedestrian improvements. Morrison said the YDA’s new campaign — branded "Light up Yamhill all winter long" — aims to extend lighting beyond the holidays and to engage businesses and residents in fundraising and participation. "Light up Yamhill all winter long," Morrison said as she described outreach and a bingo fundraiser that will serve as the primary funding source for the lights.
Morrison said the YDA is aligning its work with city efforts on tree plantings, traffic calming and the city’s grant pursuits (TSP and TGM) to support sidewalks and downtown improvements. The group plans to report back after sending letters to businesses and conducting an email outreach campaign. Morrison also noted two YDA members will attend the Oregon Main Street conference in Albany in October to gather ideas and training on long-term downtown strategies.
Economic development committee members framed the design-work effort as a way to preserve Yamhill’s historic character while encouraging pedestrian-friendly development and safe routes to schools. The committee will meet Oct. 7 to finalize recommendations for the planning commission.
