Romulus council hears petition to vacate Cypress Road; petitioner says road will remain for service access

Romulus City Council convened a special public hearing Aug. 25, 2025, to hear a petition from SAK Construction to partially vacate a stub of Cypress Road in the Metroplex Industrial Park Subdivision No. 1. Attorney William Hoesler, representing the petitioner, told the council the company owns adjoining lots and seeks the vacation as a first step toward combining parcels for site improvements.
Hoesler said the petitioner and city departments had reviewed the proposal and that "as far as I know, there's no objections to that." He emphasized the company will maintain the roadway for emergency and service access, saying, "So we need that road." He added the petitioner has no plans to change the roadway's current configuration.
The clerk provided background that the petition was filed on 02/17/2025 and that signature petitions were filed in the clerk's office on 06/12/2025; departmental reviews were circulated for council consideration. During questioning, Councilwoman Roscoe asked whether Cypress Road extends through to Brant; council members and the attorney responded that the road does not go all the way through and that a fence blocks continuity on the west side.
No members of the public spoke during the allotted public-comment period. The clerk reminded the council the petition remains listed later on the agenda under the clerk's report, where council action may be taken. The council also conducted routine business at the start of the session (the agenda was approved by unanimous vote) and adjourned without further public testimony.
Next steps: the matter remains on the clerk's report for a future council action; no formal vacation of Cypress Road was adopted at this special hearing.
