Mount Shasta — At the Sept. 16 meeting the Mount Shasta Police Department announced a $10,000 donation from the Mount Shasta Canine Association to the city’s general fund, introduced new full‑time officer Mark St. Clair and presented Officer Goldsberry with a life‑saving award.
Chief of police (speaker) said the department had budgeted to receive $8,000 from the organization but was given $10,000. The chief asked the community to welcome Officer Mark St. Clair, who joins the department after retiring from the Shasta County Sheriff’s Department as a sergeant and bomb technician and after service as a U.S. Marine; St. Clair will serve as a full‑time officer in Mount Shasta.
The chief read a letter from Woodland Police Chief Ryan Gelman describing a medical emergency at a recent DARE training in which Woodland officer Maria Sierra suffered a likely brain aneurysm. The letter praised Officer Goldsberry’s quick EMT response — "His calm response combined with his EMT training proved critical" — saying those actions helped keep the officer stable until paramedics arrived and that Officer Sierra has since been discharged from intensive care and is now in rehabilitation. The council presented Officer Goldsberry with a life‑saving award and recognized his actions publicly.
The chief also updated council on regular officer training and commended Goldsberry and the Woodland officers for their teamwork during the emergency.
