Lawton council approves participation in Purdue Pharma and related manufacturer settlements

LAWTON, Okla. — Lawton city leaders approved a resolution authorizing the city to accept the thirteenth amended Chapter 11 plan for Purdue Pharma LP and to participate in related settlement agreements with multiple pharmaceutical manufacturers.
Council met in executive session to receive confidential legal advice on pending opioid‑related claims and bankruptcy matters. After returning to open session, the council authorized legal counsel to vote to accept the bankruptcy plan via master ballot and approved participation in the Government Entity Settlement Agreement (GESA), dated June 17, 2025. The council also authorized the mayor (or designee) to execute subdivision participation forms for settlement agreements with manufacturers named in the motion, including Alvogen, Amneal, Apotex, Hikma, Endeavor/Mylan, Sandoz, Sun and Zydus.
City legal staff explained that participating in the plan and the GESA would allow Lawton to seek a share of settlement distributions designated for government entities and to participate in the implementation process under the bankruptcy plan. Council voted on the authorization by roll call.
