Georgetown council authorizes KYTC grant application to resurface Delaplane Road and Main Avenue

On Sept. 22 Georgetown City Council authorized staff to apply for a Kentucky Transportation Cabinet municipal-aid grant to resurface two roads: Delaplane Road (an industrial cut-through heavily used by Toyota and other traffic) and Main Avenue in the Boston neighborhood.
Staff explained the application is a walk-on item because an Oct. 1 submission deadline required additional coordination with the consultant. The grant would cover 80% of project costs; the city would provide a 20% local match. Staff identified the combined local match for both roads as $116,002.61 and confirmed the city can use MAP (municipal aid/paving) funds to cover the local match.
Council members discussed traffic impacts on Delaplane Road, noting industrial traffic, nearby subdivisions and an upcoming elementary school that will increase use of the corridor. The municipal order authorizing the application passed on a voice vote after a motion by Miss Sames and a second by Miss Mitchell. Staff said municipal-aid decisions are made by municipal-aid staff and that the city will follow up with timing on awards.
If awarded, the project would move to design and construction scheduling with coordination between municipal aid and city public works.
