Burrillville honors DECA and SkillsUSA winners advancing to national competitions

The Burrillville School Committee opened its April 8 meeting by honoring high‑school and middle‑school students who placed at the Rhode Island State Career Development Conference and SkillsUSA competitions.
Mike, a district presenter, described DECA as a student organization preparing students for careers in finance, hospitality and management and noted winners will advance to the international DECA conference in Orlando. Chair read an official citation recognizing student accomplishments and invited advisors Mary Lou Tupper and Ed Santoro to accept on behalf of students.
Several students and teams were named for first‑ and third‑place finishes, including a first place in financial consulting and placements in retail merchandising, human resources and quick‑service restaurant management. The student representative also reported SkillsUSA results and said Burrillville teams will compete at nationals in Atlanta in late June.
Committee members applauded the students; one member contributed $80 from personal funds to offset DECA expenses. The meeting included certificates and a group photo opportunity.
