Burlington board renews TAP partnership with Iowa Vocational Rehabilitation Services

Staff said the program places a vocational rehabilitation counselor in the high school on a shared-cost basis; as one presenter put it, “we basically get 1 teacher and half the price,” and the position helps students with disabilities with individualized transition plans to college, the workforce or supported living.
Board members noted the district was among the first in Iowa to adopt TAP and said the program has expanded across the state. Administrators credited district staff, naming Ashley for her work assisting students with transition support and with college preparation tasks such as FAFSA assistance.
The motion to approve the contract amendment was moved and seconded and passed. The board did not specify funding amounts in the discussion at the meeting.
The district will continue to coordinate TAP services with school transition plans and vocational-rehabilitation resources at the state level. No follow-up vote or next meeting date related to the contract amendment was announced at the meeting.
