Boerne ISD highlights P-TECH growth, college-credit savings and grant award

Boerne ISD trustees received the district—s annual P-TECH update on April 21, with staff reporting expanding enrollment, measurable college-credit savings and a new workforce grant for health-science instruction.
Polis, the district—s director of advanced academics and college, career and military readiness, described two P-TECH programs: cybersecurity at Champion High School (partnered with Northwest Vista College) and health sciences at Boerne High School (partnered with San Antonio College). Polis said cybersecurity enrollment sits at 179 students, while the health-science program enrolled 200 students this year (189 freshmen).
Polis described outcome-based measures (access, achievement, attainment). The cybersecurity program met access and achievement targets but is at about 50% on attainment criteria so far because not all indicators are yet calculated in year three. District staff estimated college-credit cost savings for the cybersecurity program at roughly $296,000 and about $68,000 for health-science dual-credit courses. Polis noted two cybersecurity students are graduating this year with associate degrees and will complete industry credentials before graduation.
Polis also said the health-science P-TECH received a JET (Texas workforce) grant of about $300,000 to purchase equipment and cited training on new equipment in the Boerne High School facility.
Trustees asked about TSI preparation and enrollment caps; staff described tutoring, structured advisories, summer-bridge programs and ongoing partnership negotiations with San Antonio College to manage enrollment.
Polis closed by thanking trustees for support and noting P-TECH—s role in removing barriers and providing career and college pathways for students.
