South Kingstown — The school committee adopted a concise mission statement and a Thrive core-belief framework recommended by the superintendent, saying the statement and pillars will guide strategic planning and alignment with equity priorities.
Superintendent Mr. Pedraza presented the proposed mission—"In partnership with the community, our students will thrive"—and the Thrive core beliefs (trust; high expectations; respect; inclusion; voice; equity). He explained the framework emerged from stakeholder input, research and the district’s equity audit, and said the strategic-planning subcommittee will draft performance indicators and a multi-year vision for measuring progress.
Committee members praised the brevity and research linkage but asked about alignment with the high-school "vision of a graduate" and the representativeness of a strategic-plan survey (93 family/caregiver responses). The superintendent supplied survey breakdowns by school and by special-education status and reiterated plans to publish supporting research and links so stakeholders can examine the evidence behind each pillar.
A member moved to adopt the mission and core-belief framework (removing the word "draft"); the motion was seconded and the committee approved it by voice vote. The committee directed staff and the strategic subcommittee to develop KPIs and resources for community review and to ensure ongoing alignment with equity audit recommendations.
