Gatesville ISD trustees honored retired teacher Lyra Lamb as a 'Hornet Legend' during the meeting. Doctor Pollard recounted Lamb’s career milestones—degree in 1960, elementary certification in 1977, a master’s degree in 1979 and 25 years of teaching—then read a note from former student Calvin Ford praising her classroom impact: "You made beautiful things happen to those who were around you."
The board also heard from a representative identified as Ricky Williams that Spurs Chevrolet/GMC committed $43,000 toward a new stadium scoreboard at Tommy Davidson Field under a 10-year sponsorship agreement; staff said the sponsor has provided roughly $75,000 in support over the years and that the new LED scoreboard is expected to arrive in late September. Staff noted the sponsorship will include a prominent advertising board for the sponsor and opportunities for the football program to sell a limited number of smaller boards to generate program revenue.
Attendees offered brief remarks of appreciation to Lamb and arranged a photograph for district publicity. The items were presented as ceremonial and informational; no formal board action was required to recognize the honoree or accept the sponsorship announcement.
