Metuchen BOE gets construction update: some openings on schedule, AC and field lights delayed

Metuchen, N.J. — The Metuchen Board of Education received a construction and facilities update at its Aug. 12 meeting that outlined completion targets and highlighted lingering utility-related delays.
"At Moss School, the kindergarten is expected to be completed on time, August 22 approximately," Mr. Glassberg told the board. He said some site work at Moss should be finished by early November and that interior features such as playgrounds will be ready for the start of the school year.
Glassberg said Edgar’s addition should be complete in August though some front-of-site work could continue into the early school year, and Campbell’s addition and playground may be finished by the end of the week or certainly by August. At the high school, the addition is on a similar timeline to Campbell but the air-conditioning and field lights depend on electrical work: field lights are expected in late fall but will require the completion of new addition electrical systems to be usable.
He noted the cafeteria addition is completed but is temporarily being used as board offices until the board offices themselves are finished mid‑school year. Delays related to PSE&G work were cited as a primary reason air-conditioning activation may lag.
The board president and superintendent indicated Dr. Caputo will circulate written timelines after the meeting and that an open construction-committee meeting will be held the following Monday at the high school media center for members of the public.
