Department says 2024 ACP delivered $25.5M for airports across Oklahoma

Kicking off a wide-ranging construction report, the department described completed 2024 Airport Construction Program projects across dozens of rural Oklahoma airports, including runway overlays, taxi-lane construction, new and replacement hangars, self-service fuel systems and lighting upgrades.

Highlights presented by staff included: a self-service fuel system installation (100LL and Jet-A) supported with a state portion of $513,000 and an FAA contribution of $415,000 for a total of $1,026,000; a runway overlay and widening at Blackwell with a department share of $67,000 and an FAA match of $1.2M (total $1.3M); new hangars in Chickasha and a large joint-use box hangar at Enid Woodring; and multiple apron rehabilitation, lighting and taxiway realignment projects. Staff reported the department paid about $8.3M and the FAA contributed about $12.7M for a combined 2024 investment of roughly $25.5M in Oklahoma projects.

Staff emphasized local municipalities’ financial contributions and involvement during project delivery and noted immediate operational benefits at some airports (for example, new hangars enabling a municipal airport to move to a positive cash-flow position after tornado recovery). The presentation included project-by-project local and federal shares and photographic examples of completed work.

Staff said the agency will continue weekly project progress meetings with local sponsors and contractors and highlighted recent prepave conferences to ensure contractors meet pavement and compaction specifications.

The commission thanked staff for the report and recognized local engagement and the apparent economic impacts of the projects.
