Commission updates contract after Climax–Pleasant Garden fire departments merge into Central Piedmont Fire Department

Eric Beard told commissioners that the Climax Fire Department will merge with Pleasant Garden Volunteer Fire Department effective July 1, 2025, and that the surviving entity will operate as Central Piedmont Fire Department. County staff updated the existing fire-protection contract to recognize the new entity and to align the contract’s expiration date with other county fire-protection contracts.
Beard explained that the departments have historically provided cross-county aid across Randolph and Guilford counties and that the merger formalizes an existing operating relationship. He asked commissioners to approve the amended contract and to authorize the board chair to sign it.
Commissioners moved and seconded approval and the board voted in favor. The clerk asked the assembled fire-department representatives to stand so the board could acknowledge them.
