Administration estimated that forcing a special election in isolation could cost the district roughly $60,000.
Staff proposed an application process for an appointment: publish the vacancy, accept resumes and short written responses to two questions (why the applicant is interested and what qualifies them), receive applications by approximately Aug. 7, interview candidates in open session and consider appointment at a special board meeting proposed for Aug. 21 at 7 p.m. The superintendent said the appointment (if made) would be effective at the next regular meeting.
Board members asked procedural questions about term lengths and ballot seat designations. Administration noted statutory timelines including a 30‑day appointment window from the effective date of termination and said staff would post application materials and the timeline publicly.
No appointment was made at the July 24 meeting; the board moved to schedule the Aug. 21 special meeting to consider the construction‑manager procurement and to interview applicants for the vacancy.
