Commissioners adopt proclamations for Early Childhood Education Month, Hispanic Heritage Month and Constitution Week

The New Hanover County Board of Commissioners adopted three proclamations honoring local observances and programs.
A proclamation recognizing September 2025 as Early Childhood Education Month was presented in partnership with Smart Start of New Hanover County. Jane Morrow of Smart Start thanked the board and emphasized the importance of early brain development and the role of early childhood supports in sustaining the workforce.
The board also adopted a proclamation designating Sept. 15 through Oct. 15, 2025 as Hispanic Heritage Month. A representative of the New Hanover Hispanic Latin Commission accepted comments celebrating cultural contributions and community-building.
Finally, the board adopted a Constitution Week proclamation marking the anniversary of the 1787 signing; a local chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution described a community event at the Burgwin-Wright House to ring bells and commemorate the Constitution.
All three proclamations were adopted by voice vote during the meeting; commissioners invited staff and community representatives to join for photos.
