Policies: Miss Sharp presented multiple policy renumberings and content changes tied to new state statutes. Highlights included renaming the school improvement policy to "planning for educational improvement" to align with Act 807 and the district strategic plan; a new policy on district website disclosures; library-media-materials guidance to comply with an act requiring a locked area for K–5 materials deemed not age-appropriate; and revisions to concurrent-credit and accelerated-learning policies reflecting the Arkansas Access laws (Acts 340/341) including provisions that parents should not be charged for certain concurrent-credit costs and a new accelerated-scholarship provision (up to 15 concurrent credit hours per semester and a $2,000 per-year scholarship noted in the presentation). Staff cautioned that many implementing rules for these state acts are still forthcoming and that some details may change when state guidance is released.
Board members asked clarifying questions about how locked rooms will be designated for library materials, whether concurrent credits will carry costs for parents (staff said parents are not responsible for costs for specified grade levels), and how accelerated course weighting will be approved by DESE. The board voted to approve the handbook changes and policy revisions as presented.
