County approves PATH grant application to fully fund outreach worker for homeless services

Nikki Knowles, mental health supervisor, recommended board approval of a PATH grant application submitted through a four‑county community adult mental health initiative (Stearns, Benton, Sherburne and Wright counties). Knowles said the county applied for $226,076 to fund staff salary and benefits, direct assistance (security/damage deposits, first monthrent, application fees) and administrative costs while Benton County serves as fiscal host.
Knowles noted the grant period runs from Aug. 18, 2024 through June 30, 2025 and that the award is renewable; she said the grant would "fully fund our outreach worker" but requires heavier HMIS reporting that could reduce the worker's time in community outreach. Commissioners asked about contingency if grant funds end; Knowles said the award has historically been a rolling grant in neighboring counties and the county would receive notice if funding would not continue.
After discussion, the board moved and approved the PATH grant contract and authorized signature routing to the board chair for contract execution.
