A representative of the Human Relations Committee urged the Board of Commissioners to help convene a community forum on homelessness and to send a representative to a planning meeting scheduled for Wednesday at 9 a.m. at the Housing Authority. Speakers said the forum would build on prior task-force work and would aim to gather countywide input, identify service gaps and engage municipal and county representatives.
Speakers described a range of causes for homelessness and said no single solution exists; they asked for county representation at the planning session and for commissioners to encourage city council and municipal participation. The committee suggested the forum be held in October and noted the importance of involving public works, police, fire, schools, parks and business stakeholders.
Commissioners requested the agenda and asked to be copied on invites; one commissioner noted an ongoing city task force and suggested the new forum could build on that work. No formal action was taken beyond agreeing to receive invitations and consider attendance.
