The Galena School Board accepted a $5,000 donation from the family of Howard Muckle to fund back-seat installations on the home side of the Galena High School gymnasium.
Board members introduced the Howard Muckle family and described Howard as a 1974 GHS alumnus and a longtime, enthusiastic fan. A family member told the board: "My husband and father of our 3 girls, Howard Muckle, passed away suddenly this past June 10," and described the family's choice to honor his memory through the athletic program.
Board member John moved to accept the donation "as presented," and Mike Hyland seconded. A roll-call vote was taken and the motion was approved by the board.
The board invited the family to stay for the meeting and thanked them for the gift; the donation will be applied to permanent seat backs in the new gym's home-side front row, the organizers said.
