The Beauregard Parish School Board approved the fiscal year 2026 budget and took several financial steps intended to move capital projects forward.
At Tuesday’s meeting the board adopted the FY2026 budget after the superintendent’s office confirmed statutory notice and public hearing requirements had been met. “From our general fund, we are looking at, at this point, about $2,000,000 to be able to move into the reserve,” said the superintendent’s representative presenting the financials. The presenter also reported approximately $1,000,000 on the ad valorem side; both figures were described as unaudited and subject to final audit adjustments.
The board also adopted a resolution canvassing returns of the parishwide special election held May 3 that authorized issuance of general-obligation school bonds. Raymond James financial adviser Stephanie Ferry told trustees the district should expect a bond premium on the sale and that prior public offerings produced premiums in the neighborhood of 6%; she said market conditions make a lower premium likely for the next series. Board members said staff will return at the July meeting to begin the first series of bond issuance and to finalize timing and amounts.
On contracts, trustees accepted the low bid for additions and renovations at Singer High School. The low responsive bid of $912,000 from K & J Development was recommended by staff and approved by voice vote.
Routine business included appointment of The News Leader as the board’s official journal for 2025–26 in accordance with Louisiana Revised Statutes and approval of a one-year lease with TRIO Community Meals to continue senior meal service at the Title I media center for July 1, 2025, through June 30, 2026.
Board members and staff framed the budget vote as a conservative step that leaves restricted funds available for prioritized repairs, including roofing and HVAC work tied to insurance and FEMA recoveries. The board set aside a placeholder line item for potential repairs to be finalized in a later budget revision once insurance and other reimbursements are received.
The superintendent’s office said final audited numbers will be presented later in the summer; the board can restrict funds for specific projects after audit closing and formal revision process.
