The Halifax County Board of Commissioners on June 2 adopted a settlement project ordinance to establish a spending framework for opioid settlement funds and approved a separate spending authorization to add $10,000 for strategic planning and training.
County staff told the board the county currently holds roughly $1.6 million in MOA-controlled settlement funds and an additional $27,217 from a McKinsey settlement that is not covered by the state MOA. The ordinance lists proposed project descriptions and leaves certain balances unassigned pending further program development.
The approved spending resolution authorizes the extra $10,000 for planning and training and extends the allowable project period for that activity to June 30, 2026. Staff said the county will return to the board with program-level proposals and separate resolutions seeking authorization before any specific funds are spent.
