Goose Creek CISD board rejects proposal to terminate Lee High teacher after hours of public comment

Dozens of residents addressed the Goose Creek Consolidated Independent School District board Wednesday evening before trustees considered action related to a Lee High School teacher.

The public-comment period focused on allegations about a teacher’s social-media post referencing the death of conservative commentator Charlie Kirk. Multiple speakers urged discipline or dismissal, arguing such posts normalize violence or reflect bias; other speakers defended the teacher’s character and urged reinstatement.

Nick Rice, introducing himself as a district product and speaking to agenda item 7g, said the community ‘deserves nothing less’ than professionalism from educators and warned that ‘when an educator publicly mocks tragedy or promotes division, it sends the wrong message’ to students and parents. Several parents and former students, including Raquel Erewen and McKinley Brady, described the teacher as a devoted mentor and asked the board to return her to the classroom.

After public comment, trustees considered a motion to propose mid-contract termination of the Lee High School teacher, named on the agenda and in board discussion as Jennifer Coeur d’amanche. The motion to propose termination was moved and seconded but did not gain the support required on the record; the chair confirmed the motion failed.

Trustees also approved other personnel actions that evening, including the appointment of Theresa Hall as a literacy coach specialist. Administration said no action was taken during a closed session earlier in the meeting and that formal notice and personnel processes would be followed as required by district policy and state law.

The board did not discuss disciplinary specifics in open session beyond the motion and outcome. No additional votes or formal sanctions related to the teacher were recorded in the meeting minutes.
