The Cliffside Park Board of Education highlighted personnel moves and district performance updates at its meeting. The board identified resolution 21 as the appointment of Michael Sparito to serve as high school vice principal; the agenda summary says Sparito has served in the district as a special-education teacher, coach, middle-school teacher and most recently as supervisor of pupil personnel.
Speaker 2, who introduced the personnel and operational updates, said the district is finalizing job postings and has welcomed a number of new hires ahead of the school year, leaving two active maternity positions and roughly five weeks until the first day of classes. "We are down to, I believe, just 2 maternity positions within the district," Speaker 2 said.
Speaker 2 also reported preliminary NJSLA state testing results from spring have arrived and district staff are analyzing them. "We're in the process of analyzing those scores and looking forward to sharing them with students and parents, in the fall," Speaker 2 said.
On broader performance measures, Speaker 2 told the board the district received its CUSAC review this summer and was rated "highly effective," receiving an 80% rating in all five categories; Speaker 2 thanked administrators, teachers and support staff for the result. The board did not record a formal vote on the Sparito appointment in the portions of the transcript provided; the item appeared on the consent/appointments portion of the agenda for later consideration.
Next steps: resolution 21 (the appointment) appears on the published agenda for approval during the meeting; the board packet indicates additional routine personnel actions are also on the agenda.
