The Sweetwater Planning and Zoning Commission handled several procedural housekeeping items at the start of the meeting before the zoning public hearing. Commissioners approved minutes from the May 28, 2024 meeting by voice vote and administered the oath of office to new and returning commission members.
A nomination to appoint Commissioner Stein as chair was accepted and the motion to appoint carried by voice vote after a motion by Commissioner Terry Bennett and a second by Reese Duncan. The commission discussed appointing a vice chair but voted to table that appointment to a later meeting while the commission completes orientation and because several members and alternates are new.
Later in the meeting the commission opened, heard and closed a public hearing on the proposed zoning and land-use ordinance and, after extensive public comment and discussion, voted to table the zoning item for additional text and map edits and scheduled a special meeting on Sept. 30 at 5:30 p.m. to continue consideration. If the commission forwards a recommendation, City Council will hold a public hearing and potentially vote in October.
No roll-call tallies for the procedural motions were recorded in the transcript; outcomes were recorded by voice vote with the chair announcing motions carried.
