Ridgecrest approves $99,999 grant to add 10 electric police bicycles

Police staff said the bikes are intended as a supplemental patrol tool — useful for burglary patrols, community events and areas where a patrol car is less effective. "It requires no upfront costs, It's completely covered by the grant," the Police Chief said during the presentation. Council members discussed operational roles for the bicycles and training to be delivered in Ridgecrest to reflect local terrain.
The council moved and seconded the resolution and approved it by a recorded tally of 4 ayes (mayor absent). Staff will proceed with grant acceptance and procurement as described in the staff report.
