Monroe council adopts fireworks ordinance, approves county parking purchase and several redevelopment measures

60 Wadsworth purchase and lease: Council approved a purchase agreement with Monroe County to acquire the parking lot at 60 Wadsworth Street and a related 30‑year lease that will reserve parking spots for county employees at 212 East Front Street. Staff said the county commission had the same items on its agenda the following day and that closing and due diligence are interdependent on county approval.
111 East Front (OPRA): The council adopted a resolution approving an Obsolete Property Rehabilitation Act (OPRA) exemption certificate for ST Project Management Agency LLC for 111 East Front Street for 12 years. Staff described a planned renovation with an estimated $551,000 investment and potential first‑floor restaurant and upper‑floor apartments.
Federal Land Access Program application: Council authorized staff to submit a $3,000,000 Federal Lands Access Program (FLAP) grant application to fund a planned realignment of Detroit Avenue that would join National Park Service and Fish & Wildlife Service properties and improve land management and visitor access; staff said the design is shovel‑ready and no local match is required for this program.
Opioid settlement: Council voted to participate in the new national opioid settlement agreement and authorized the city attorney to execute necessary documents. During discussion Councilwoman Vining urged greater community input on fund distribution and proposed a community‑led committee and dashboard reporting of outcomes.
