The Ishpeming City Council voted to waive event fees for the inaugural Ishpeming Powwow scheduled for Sept. 21 and to provide trash cans and disposal support for the event. The application in the packet was signed by Kristin Omont of the Ishpeming Powwow Committee; staff and councilors discussed logistics including the number of trash cans, whether the city would provide a roll‑off or dump‑truck service, and whether waivers apply only to 501(c)(3) organizations.
Council members said they were inclined to support an inaugural event while protecting the city’s finances. The council said trash and cleanup support will be provided for this one-time waiver, and that standard large‑event fees and cleanup charges remain refundable if applicable. DPW staff advised organizers to coordinate with the museum and fire chief regarding any contained fires and on-site safety protocols.
The motion to grant a one‑time fee waiver and to provide trash/disposal support carried by voice vote. Organizers were thanked and told a committee representative would be available at the next meeting to answer questions.
