Consultant Elena Mueller Younger presented an updated branding package and logo options to the Ishpeming City Council on Sept. 17, saying the steering committee favored a simplified palette inspired by local iron-ore colors and an interchangeable icon library that could reflect skiing, biking and other recreation. "The steering committee agreed that we really like that interchangeability," Mueller Younger said during her presentation.
Council members asked about public outreach and the visibility of small icons when applied to vehicles. Finance director Greg said the city used a steering committee and an online survey conducted in fall of the prior year, and the package was crafted to produce a distinct city mark separate from school logos. Greg added the package includes an icon library and that staff can provide additional ski and icon variations if councilors want them.
After brief questions about the ski icon’s appearance and how the mark would look on vehicles and DPW equipment, a council member moved to accept the rebranding package as presented so the city could meet RRC deadlines. The motion carried by voice vote.
Councilors and staff said the city will provide additional icon variants on request and continue outreach as the designs are rolled out. The council’s vote authorizes staff to proceed with the logo package as presented and to follow through with implementation steps outlined by the consultant.
