New senior center to open in Easly; ribbon cutting Aug. 28

Pickens County Meals on Wheels announced plans to open a third senior center in Easly at the renovated YMCA building at 250 Burns Road.
Kim Valentin told the council the ribbon cutting is scheduled for Aug. 28 at 11 a.m.; the center will hold an open house throughout the day and begin regular operations on Sept. 2. Operating hours will be 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Monday through Friday (closed Labor Day). Membership will be $25 per person annually or $35 per couple. Lunch service will be offered for around $5 per meal for nonmembers and $3 for members.
Valentin asked council members and the public to invite neighbors age 55 and older to the center; staff said programming will include exercise, dining and daily activities intended to engage older residents. A ribbon-cutting invitation was said to have been forwarded to the city administrator for distribution.
No council action was requested; the announcement was delivered during the public-comment portion of the meeting.
