The Crescent City Council voted to adopt Resolution No. 2025--34, authorizing the city to determine delinquent sewer charges for specific parcels and to submit those amounts to the county for inclusion on the next property tax roll.
Finance Director Linda Lever explained the annual process for sewer‑only accounts, emphasizing that, unlike accounts receiving both water and sewer service, the city cannot shut off water to compel payment for sewer‑only service. "For sewer only service, there is no water service for us to shut off," Lever said, and the procedure under state regulation is to compile a list of delinquent accounts and submit the charges to the county for collection on the property tax bill.
Lever told the council the list published in the agenda was prepared about 10 days earlier and staff provided an updated list the day of the meeting; customers who paid in the interim were removed from the list. The public hearing provided property owners an opportunity to object or request changes; no public comments were made.
After closing the hearing, the council moved, seconded and voted to adopt Resolution No. 2025--34. Clerk records show the vote was unanimous.
What the resolution does: it authorizes the finance director to finalize the list of delinquent sewer charges and direct staff to forward the amounts to the county for collection with ordinary property taxes.
Next steps: staff will transmit the final list to the county for inclusion on next years tax bill; affected property owners may contact the finance department with objections prior to transmission.
