Benton County approves classification/comp memorandum; tables sheriff food-service amendment

The Benton County Board of Commissioners approved a memorandum of agreement to implement parts of the county—s three-year classification and compensation maintenance program and delayed action on a proposed amendment to the sheriff—s food-service contract.

A staff member explained the county had contracted with David Drown Associates to review a third of job classifications each year and that the memorandum on the board—s agenda formalizes how classification and market-adjustment recommendations will be implemented for bargaining-unit employees. Commissioner Benoit asked for the explanation before voting; he moved to approve the consent item and the board carried the motion.

Separately, commissioners discussed a proposed food-service amendment for the sheriff—s department. Sheriff Troy told the board the vendor requested a 3.8% price increase and that the $287,000 estimate in the materials was calculated using an average daily inmate population of roughly 35–40. Troy said staff had sought additional bids but had not yet received results and offered to locate the original contract to confirm opt-out or termination clauses. Given those outstanding questions, the board voted to table the item until staff and the two commissioners assigned to follow up can meet with the sheriff.

The meeting recessed to conduct an Economic Development Authority session, and EDA housekeeping items (nominations for chair and vice chair) and a microloan presentation for Odom Medical Group were also on the agenda.
