Chesterfield Council backs Locate SC grant application, advances Project Chestnut and accepts fire-department contract

Chesterfield County Council voted Sept. 3 to authorize county staff to support and apply for the Locate SC Site Enhancement Initiative and to advance several items discussed in executive session, including first reading of Project Chestnut and acceptance of a local fire department contract.
The council, meeting in regular session, authorized "Michelle and counsel to write a letter of support" for the Locate SC Site Enhancement Initiative and directed Libby to submit the grant application. The motion was made by Mr. Curtis and seconded by Ms. Burns; the action was approved by a voice vote. The item had been added to the agenda earlier in the meeting because the grant deadline was imminent.
Council also placed Project Chestnut on first reading by title only after emerging from an executive session that the chair said was held under South Carolina Code section 34-78 to discuss economic development projects (including Project Chestnut, Project Maple Leaf and the Locate SC initiative), personnel matters and contractual negotiations. The council also voted to accept the Tills Mill Fire Department contract "in its current state."
