"Students would be eligible for $2,500 a year for 4 years," Dr. Burton said, describing scholarship mechanics and the district's expectation that recipients return to teach in Chatham County Schools for four years in exchange for funds.
Under the agreement, the Chatham Education Foundation will act as the pass‑through for scholarship funds and was identified by district staff as an initial donor; meeting remarks thanked the foundation for providing one of the first $2,500 installments.
The board moved and seconded approval of the scholarship agreement and recorded a voice vote of 'aye' with no recorded opposed voices. After the vote, district staff introduced inaugural scholarship recipients and said they would sign scholarship agreements during a hallway signing event.
