Byram Hills board honors retiring teacher, mock‑trial champions and 25 tenure recipients

The board accepted the resignation of Evan Horowitz, a longtime high school chemistry teacher, for the purpose of retirement; the board and community speakers expressed appreciation for his years of service. Superintendent Jen Lamia led the recognitions and asked for applause in his honor.
The board also celebrated the Westchester County Bar Association 2025 mock trial champions from Byram Hills. Superintendent Lamia invited Mr. Allen and coach Elliot Schuman to the meeting; the team was praised for a county championship, a perfect county final score (reported as a first for Byram Hills), and advancement to regional competition. The coach described an intensive practice schedule and named participating students (including Leah Stein, Chloe Fenster, Yingying Chen, Ian Klugman, Emily Battaglia, Amelia Will Petersen, Andrew Levy, Adrianna Zwojczyk and Aaron Stein) and thanked volunteer and attorney coaches (including Elliot Schuman).
Superintendent Lamia also presented the district’s "25 for '25" tenure class: she said 25 teachers and administrators earned tenure in 2025 across Coleman Hill, Wampus, HCC and Byram Hills High School, and noted that the tenures had already been approved through the personnel consent agenda earlier in the meeting. A subset of names read aloud included Lauren Azenberg, Shannon Daley, Mikaela Rominello, Stephanie DePalma, Jeanette Martamucci, Michael McHale, Nicole Perjean, Alyssa Leahy, Lindsay McHale, Leah Weckerly, Pat McCormick, Chitra Panicker, Kelly Holiday, Shannon Kirby, Sarah Fitzgerald, Annie Schmidt, Dave Mack, Marissa Cuomo, Vinny Minitolo, Allison Mule, Carly Seracco, Kelsey Smith and Adele St. Onge. The board arranged photos and held a lighthearted "Tenure Jeopardy" game to honor recipients.
