Brandon Valley board approves elementary boundary changes for 2026–27

The Brandon Valley School District 49-2 Board of Education voted to approve new elementary school boundaries that will take effect for the 2026–27 school year, shifting portions of the southern district into the new Berkman Valley Elementary.
Superintendent Larson presented the proposal and said the plan affects students currently assigned to Brandon Elementary, Inspiration Elementary and Robert Benes Elementary. He noted the district will notify impacted families by letter and will ask them to indicate whether their child will remain in their current building or move to Berkman Valley. "You will be going to Berkman Valley Elementary," Larson said when describing the change for those living in the affected zone.
District staff emphasized an exception for current third graders: those students may remain in their current building for fourth grade but will not receive district transportation if they choose to stay. Larson also said the district will attempt to accommodate sibling requests where possible and expects to open certified and classified staffing positions to fill the new school's needs.
Board members moved and seconded the item and approved the boundaries by voice vote with no recorded opposition. Larson described the adopted alignment as "a good sound long-lasting boundary line that can serve us into the future." The district anticipates notifying families about the change around December and will gather family responses to finalize placements and staffing.
