Parent asks board to request new Woodbridge Academy stop; district says it would raise costs

Metuchen Sept. 30, 2025 During the public-comment portion of the Metuchen Board of Education meeting on Sept. 30, a resident asked the board to seek an additional bus stop on an existing county-run route serving Woodbridge Academy to reduce his sons walk.
The speaker, identified in the record as Tom, said he had been in contact with both district staff and the county commissioner and that the existing stop locations required his son to walk roughly two miles. "If they can just make a stop there, I think that'll be really helpful," Tom said, describing the requested stop at the Amboy route junction as a short change that would not require a route deviation.
District representative Mister Harvey replied that the district aims to provide as many stops as possible but that adding a stop would increase cost. "If we added another stop, it would cost more money," he said, adding that opening the door to more stop requests could create additional expense. Harvey said the district would contact the county commission again but cautioned that the likely response would be similar to prior replies.
The board thanked the resident and indicated staff would follow up with the commission and inform the commenter of what they learn.
