Metuchen Sept. 30, 2025 The Metuchen Board of Educations construction committee told the board on Sept. 30 that most contingency funds for ongoing capital projects have been used and that several school-site milestones remain scheduled through the winter.
Committee member Mister Glassberg reported that soils removal at the high school and associated responsibilities remain under review and that the change-order list is being quantified before options are decided. "Most of the contingency has been used up at this point," Glassberg said, adding that the committee will evaluate outstanding change orders before making further recommendations.
At the high school, the outdoor patio is complete but not fully in use; the new gymnasium classrooms and temporary board offices are targeted for completion in the later part of December, and the additional cafeteria work is expected to come back online in January after a temporary board-office move. Field lights were targeted to be energized in mid-December. At Edgar, the new air-conditioning system is not yet fully operational in all rooms; campus office suites and new classrooms are open with some finishing work remaining. At Moss, air conditioning is up and running and a new addition is targeted for late January to accommodate first- and second-grade realignment.
The committee noted opportunities for public celebrations and tours once projects are complete and scheduled a public construction update for Oct. 6 at 7 p.m. in the Metuchen High School Media Center.
