County refers Goodox zoning question to Planning & Zoning and OKs cabin development-plan amendment

The Lawrence County commission took two land-use actions on items presented by staff and private applicants.

First, commissioners directed Planning & Zoning to initiate an administrative change to the Highway Service Commercial district to consider allowing certain restaurant/food-service or mixed uses at the Goodox property, which had been inactive and recently sold. Staff said the administrative change would require a public hearing and could result in conditional allowances; the board approved the referral to Planning & Zoning for study and public process.

Second, the commission approved an amendment to a 2022 development plan for a specialty resort with three cabins. Property owner Dean Meyer and a consulting engineer explained the original plan called for a shared septic system for all three cabins, but site conditions and state review showed that using two separate septic fields is more feasible. Commissioners voted to amend the plan and allowed the owner to proceed with building permits subject to state septic approval.

Both items were presented as procedural land-use matters: the Goodox item begins an ordinance review and public hearing process, while the development-plan amendment was approved on the record with the condition that state sanitary approvals are met.
