Bemidji board approves 10-year long-term facilities maintenance plan

The Bemidji Public School District board unanimously approved a 10-year Long-Term Facilities Maintenance plan on July 21, fulfilling a Minnesota Department of Education requirement that districts annually adopt a plan covering projected expenditures, revenue and a statement of assurances.
District staff said the plan draws on the district’s 10-year facility schedule and is intended to fund like-for-like deferred maintenance, accessibility improvements and health-and-safety projects. The plan includes a 10-year expense projection, a 10-year revenue projection and a statement of assurances signed by the superintendent attesting that LTFM funds will be spent in accordance with state statutes.
Superintendent staff noted the district may modify the schedule if priorities change or if a major qualifying project (for example, asbestos abatement) warrants requesting additional levy authority from the Minnesota Department of Education. Board members thanked staff for the work put into the plan; the resolution was adopted by roll-call with all members voting yes.
The action places the district’s capital priorities on record and preserves the option to seek additional state approval or levy authority for large qualifying projects in the coming decade.
