The Acadia Parish School Board took a series of routine administrative actions at its meeting, approving insurance renewals, authorizing disposal of an older school bus and forwarding budget and procurement recommendations from committee to the full board.
The board approved renewal of the district’s casualty (property/casualty) insurance for 2025–26 after a staff explanation of coverage. A presenter said the total premium is $653,697, an increase of $45,040 from the prior year; a PECO dividend expected July 1 of about $31,000 will reduce the district’s net increase to roughly $11,000. The renewal vote carried by voice vote.
The board also approved a new property insurance placement for the 2024–26 period. A committee member reported an approximate $400,000 decrease in cost from the prior year (described in the meeting as roughly a 20% reduction) and discussed policy layers; the transcript states the district carries a 3% deductible, cited in remarks as $300,000. That item passed by voice vote.
Separately, the board approved disposal of a 2013 Bluebird bus (VIN 1BAKGCPH9DF291497) and authorized the superintendent to process a title transfer for insurance purposes.
Committee recommendations sent to the full board for later approval included the 2025–26 expenditures, a Child Nutrition bid (bid number 334 / vendor name as spoken in the meeting), and the 2025–26 official journal bid. The Budget and Finance Committee also recommended a Head Start employee incentive request for fiscal 2024–25; the board agreed to send that request to the full board for approval.
The board approved three student travel referrals: Iota High School cheerleaders and dance line to perform at Walt Disney World in Orlando, Florida (Feb. 18–23, 2026); Midland High School FCCLA to the FCCLA National Leadership Conference in Orlando (July 5–9, 2025); and Branch Elementary to attend the national Beta Convention in Orlando (June 29–July 3, 2025). Each travel request was sent to the full board by voice vote.
In financial housekeeping, a speaker identified in the transcript as Justin delivered the sales tax report and said May receipts were up 6.45% and that collections were up 1.67% year-to-date with one month remaining in the reporting period.
The meeting concluded after a motion to adjourn carried by voice vote. The board chair thanked attendees.
