Board signs off on routine items: final 2024–25 revisions, hunting-lease renewal and positive sales tax report

Trustees completed several routine items, including final revisions to the 2024–25 budget, a recommendation to renew a hunting lease, and a positive sales tax update for July.

Mister Carrier reviewed a general‑fund handout showing adjustments the board adopted over the year: approximately $1.3 million in revenue adjustments and $1.1 million in expenditure adjustments. Carrier said these changes narrowed an originally adopted deficit of about $680,762 to a projected finish near $450,000. Mister Higginbotham moved to adopt the final revisions to the 2024–25 budget; a second was recorded and the motion carried by voice vote.

Under routine matters the Budget and Finance Committee recommended renewing a hunting lease on roughly 310 acres in the wooded portion of Section 16, Township 9 South, Range 2 West in Evangeline, LA. The presenter said Joey Hebert has held the renewal for the past several decades and pays a little over $2,500 per year; trustees approved sending the renewal for full board approval and acknowledged Hebert’s stewardship of the property.

The board received a sales tax report for July showing receipts up 11.92% compared with July of the prior year. Carrier noted it was only one month of data but said, "Hopefully, the trend continues."

Separately, trustees moved to approve revisions to policy BBC (school board committees) contingent on attorney approval; if the attorney does not sign off by the next meeting, the item will be postponed to a following meeting.

The meeting concluded with a motion to adjourn, which carried by voice vote.
