Administration briefed the board on policy and AR updates that will appear together on the upcoming consent agenda. Miss Horsey summarized personnel-policy revisions that clarify expectations for employees (professional attire, punctuality, conduct and technology) and noted AR language provides operational detail such as hiring practices and the conduct chart tied to Maryland's code of conduct.
Board members requested alignment between the personnel AR and the district's anti-discrimination policy, asking that 'national origin' and 'religion' be explicitly reflected if not already covered. One member suggested reviewing the educational-equity policy to ensure consistent language across documents. Members also asked whether coaches are classified as support staff; administration said coaches can be included as support staff and will adjust language accordingly.
Miss Darlene Spurrier presented policy/AR 10.31 concerning video recording; the policy's detailed rules were moved into the AR. Board members recommended retitling the policy to 'video surveillance' or 'video security' to distinguish security/retention issues from classroom instructional recording, and they asked for clear statements about parental permission and retention cycles. Administration said the AR includes a brief section on classroom instructional recording and that retention cycles vary by device and recording system.
Administrators also noted the district has an existing social-media policy (5.16) and that the employee handbook and ARs provide additional expectations; the district will review whether the social-media policy needs updating. These items were described as second-reader consent-agenda items; they will be posted publicly between first and second reader for comment and then presented for a single package vote on Wednesday unless a board member pulls an item for separate discussion.
