Trustees approved a change order for the Crowley High HVAC project after staff or the contractor described unforeseen wiring problems, a larger-than-expected rooftop unit that requires structural changes and a request for a schedule extension.
An unidentified speaker described three change items: wiring issues discovered during demolition estimated at $5,255, additional structural work to support a larger unit ($9,856), and a $5,000 contingency that was expected to reduce the net increase for that component to $9,774. The contractor also requested a 118‑day extension to the project schedule, explaining that some parts arrived late; the speaker indicated the 118 days would run to about Dec. 1.
"I'm wanting some wiring issues they found in the demolition that cost us $5,255," the contractor said. The board discussed earlier chiller replacements and the likelihood of additional change orders when older air handlers are replaced.
Mister Quibodeaux moved to approve change order #1 for the Crowley High HVAC replacement; Mister Higginbotham seconded. The motion carried by voice vote.
Board members asked staff to continue oversight to limit future change orders and to keep trustees informed about schedule impacts to building access and school operations.
