Superintendent: middle school power, roofing and windows nearing completion; summer learning hires nearly finished

Dr. Ratley delivered a construction and operations update on the district’s new middle school, telling the board that key milestones are approaching and that staff are preparing for summer programming.
"The power into the school by the end of this week should be totally powered up," Ratley said, reporting that trenching and line work had been completed and that crews were installing power lines. He said roofing materials are on-site, about 75% of the cafe-wing roof trusses were in place, classroom and administrative wing windows had been installed, brickwork was substantially complete, and crews had applied a first coat of paint in rooms.
Ratley said work on the gym had begun and that once the facility is "dried in" the district can proceed with interior finish work. He noted a follow-up meeting was scheduled for Wednesday to provide the board with additional details.
On academics and operations, Ratley said the district is preparing to review preliminary End-of-Grade (EOG) results and to make summer-programming decisions based on that data. The district is branding June programming as a "summer learning experience" and reported that almost all summer hires are in place; staff are finalizing provisions for transportation, child nutrition and other operational needs.
Ratley framed the start-up logistics as akin to launching a new school: "The summer program is not just an extension. It's almost like starting another whole new school," he said, and commended the curriculum and operations teams for their work.
The board did not ask follow-up questions in open session before the meeting moved on to an AIG presentation.
